The single most important thing protecting your chimney is its cap. A proper masonry chimney cap prevents water from pooling on top of the chimney, directs runoff away from the brick and mortar, and protects the flue tiles from direct exposure to the elements.
We consistently reject metal chimney caps, not because they're never used, but because they're the wrong solution for masonry chimneys. Metal oxidizes if it isn't perfectly coated, flat-profile metal designs allow water to pool, and the caulked seams that hold them fail within a few years. Once that seal breaks, water flows directly into the chimney structure.
Our chimney caps are built from masonry, sloped stone with a continuous drip edge, a 2-inch waterproof concrete weathering cap, and expansion joint material around the flues. We build to Ontario Building Code specifications, and we back our caps with a 5-year warranty.

Bats are a protected species in Ontario. They cannot be trapped or killed, but they do regularly enter chimneys through gaps in deteriorated mortar or damaged caps. We provide humane bat exclusion services: we seal all secondary entry points and install one-way exit devices that allow bats to leave but not re-enter. Once the colony has vacated (typically late summer or fall), we complete the masonry repairs to permanently seal the chimney.
